Week 12 Progress

Final Assignment Progress: This week, we uploaded our technical drawing outlines and started brainstorming for our logo as we finally decided on Andromeda as our brand name. The idea of the name was sparked when I was playing Minecraft with my classmates one night and thought that Futuristic Fairies would be associated with space. Therefore, my first thought was constellations, but constellations felt too short and simple. Then I thought of planets, which also felt too short and simple. In the end, I thought of our neighbouring galaxy, Andromeda. It had the perfect length and meaning we wanted. Hence, the birth of Andromeda.

Final Assignment Progress: This week, we uploaded the rest of our outfit design exploration onto the slides and started brainstorming for our brand name. We were not sure what to name our brand exactly as there were different opinions from everyone. The majority decided that we should use a combination of our names to make the brand name, hence the following ideas:

Week 14 Progress and Presentation

Final Assignment Progress: This week, we’re finalising our slides and planning the flow of our presentation on Friday. We continued to make adjustments to the previous slides and finalized the descriptions of our garments, range planning, styling board and conclusion. Each of us wrote our own descriptions while helping each other with creative ways to describe the clothes. Range planning was updated with the descriptions and final prices and materials. Final lineup was uploaded along with the styling board and we were done! We then split the presentation into small parts so each person would have equal speaking time while not running out of breath.  Presentation Day: On presentation day, we were the third to present and saw the other group's works for the first time. It was interesting to see how different our concepts were when we all did trend research of the same season. This truly shows that creativity cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence. When it was our turn, I was p...

Week 13 Progress

Final Assignment Progress: This week, we each updated our technical drawings to include colour and fabric texture. Finally, we  finalized our brand logo and went with the planet idea while making a text logo too. We also did the range planning according to our own garments and final line ups. For individual work, I was tasked with writing up the brand intro, vision and mission. I had a lot of fun doing this part as I got to envision the brand as a whole and make our brand sound very welcoming and playful. I also proposed the idea to add a white glow to our slide titles as it would make it stand out more and look futuristic at the same time. Besides, to make our slides look more consistent while displaying the slide info, I proposed to add a side bar using the holographic pattern that is used in our collection. With the side bar, we had to make minor adjustments to our current slides.

Week 9 Lecture and Progress

Lecture: This week, we learned about the process of garment construction. This showed to us how important scaling and sizing is as the garment has to fit the model. It was interesting to see how a piece of garment comes together and I wished we could have physical class so our lecturer could show it to us in person. Final Assignment Progress: After settling with the boards that defined our collection, we moved onto market analysis, which required us to look for competitors who had similar design trends. I kickstarted this week's progress by researching the first 2 competitors as we did not have much progress from the previous week.  After researching the competitors, we moved on to material sourcing. After a discussion, we came to the conclusion that satin had the most similar look to the liquid metal fabric so we decided to use variations of the satin to give a different look and feel for each garment. We also started to add our first few outfit designs into the slides.

Week 5 Lecture

This week, we learned about the history of fashion which opened our eyes on how fashion have evolved from the 1900s to the current 2020s.  1910s: World War 1 Era 1920s: Post World War 1 Era 1930s: Depression Era 1940s: World War 2 Era 1950s: Baby Boomers Era 1960s: Rise of Shopping 1970s: Rise of Disco Dancing 1980s: Rise of Computers 1990s: Rise of Mobile Phones 2000s: Rise of Online Shopping 2010s: Y2K 2020s: Pandemic I was enlightened by the lecture as it will help me with the coming Assignment 3 which was research on a specific decade of fashion. Our lecturer allowed us to choose our decade based on first come first serve basis. Hence, I quickly reserved the 1940s decade as I was always interested in the World War 2 period.

Week 8 Lecture and Progress

Lecture: This week, we learned about the design process of fashion. This starts from capturing inspiration using photos, and textures. With inspiration along with trend spotting, the designer can start to draw and sketch to put their ideas onto paper and visualise them better. They can also start to explore silhouettes through 2D by drawing or 3D by fabric.  Final Assignment Progress: This week we started out our Final Assignment by doing trend research. We started out browsing together and came to a conclusion of: Cut outs, knitwear, liquid metal fabric and a few colours. Since we had 4 trends to dig deeper, we split it among ourselves based on first come first serve. Hence, I chose to do colour trend research.  Since we finished our trend research and had extra time, we decided to do the inspiration board, colour board, moodboard and target market. For inspiration, we were joking about how the cut outs, fabric and colours reminded us of Techna from Winx club, which in the en...
